Bersih rally to go on as planned
KUALA LUMPUR: The Bersih rally on Nov 19 will proceed despite its organisers being denied the use of Dataran Merdeka on that day.
Bersih 2.0 deputy chairman Shahrul Ahmad Saari said the organisers will adhere to instructions from City Hall (DBKL) and the police.
“The rally will be conducted in a peaceful manner,” he said after a meeting with Brickfields and Dang Wangi police officers as well as DBKL officials.
Bersih chairman Maria Chin Abdullah, who was also present, said police did not say whether they can or cannot hold the rally.
Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos said if the Bersih rally goes on, his group will also hold its gathering.
Police said Bersih had given notice on Oct 28 for the rally, but it was not approved by DBKL. – by Timothy Achariam and Ashwin Kumar
