Ber­sih rally to go on as planned

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ber­sih rally on Nov 19 will pro­ceed de­spite its or­gan­is­ers be­ing de­nied the use of Dataran Merdeka on that day.

Ber­sih 2.0 deputy chair­man Shahrul Ah­mad Saari said the or­gan­is­ers will ad­here to in­struc­tions from City Hall (DBKL) and the po­lice.

“The rally will be con­ducted in a peace­ful man­ner,” he said after a meet­ing with Brick­fields and Dang Wangi po­lice of­fi­cers as well as DBKL of­fi­cials.

Ber­sih chair­man Maria Chin Ab­dul­lah, who was also present, said po­lice did not say whether they can or can­not hold the rally.

Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Ja­mal Yunos said if the Ber­sih rally goes on, his group will also hold its gath­er­ing.

Po­lice said Ber­sih had given no­tice on Oct 28 for the rally, but it was not ap­proved by DBKL. – by Ti­mothy Achariam and Ashwin Ku­mar
