SYDNEY: A Danish backpacker survived an encounter with a crocodile on Friday after he slipped and landed on top of the creature in Western Australia.

Johnny Bonde, 27, said he was photographing the reptile at Lake Kununurra when he tumbled and fell into the water, The West Australian reported.

“Next thing I know, I’m sliding down the bank and then I just toppled over and landed right on top of the croc. He got a pretty good grip on me and shook me around a bit,” Bonde said. “I could feel a bit of pain in my arm. It wasn’t that bad though, I was more shocked than anything.”

A video showed Bonde holding his bloodied right arm. He was treated in hospital for deep cuts, the newspaper said.

Bonde said he felt “stupid” and understood why he was bitten by the crocodile, which he estimated was about 2.5m long. “If somebody’s body slammed me at night, I would be angry too,” he said. – AFP
