Pay attention to personal branding

The Sun (Malaysia) - - SUNBIZ -

What do you want to accomplish in the next five years? I would like to see through and achieve all the plans and objectives that we have laid out for our business over the next three to five years. That keeps me excited and it gives me tremendous satisfaction in seeing each milestone being reached.

Best piece of advice you ever got on your career? Always do your best to deliver what has been entrusted to you. Never take anything for granted.

Most admired business leader? Why? I admire our group managing director Tan Sri Ong Leong Huat for his principles and acumen in business and management. He is also a visionary and inspiring leader.

How do you stay abreast of issues affecting your industry? One of the best ways, I found out, was to talk directly to my staff and not through a third party. Especially those who have a close relationship with our customers or prospects. At the same time, it is also very important to get feedback directly from your customers. In this way you know exactly the sentiment on the ground and are better prepared to manage situations.

What was your biggest failure and how did you learn from it? Playing squash with a 64-year-old man and losing to him! I learned never to underestimate one’s opponent.

Malaysia’s greatest brand? AirAsia. It has product offerings which are well defined and is a trusted brand

known worldwide.

A must-read for every business owner/ manager is ...? Jack: Straight from the Gut by Jack Welch.
