> MSU organises APPEW 2016
THE globalisation era saw some changes to the structure of the Asean economic market particularly in the pharmaceutical industry.
In view of this, Management & Science University (MSU) recently organised the Asia Pacific Pharmacy Education Workshop 2016 (Appew 2016) to study the effects of the education sector and pharmaceutical industry when the ASEAN Free Trade Area (Afta) is fully implemented.
With the theme,
the 6th edition of the programme, which was hosted for the second time by MSU, was held last month.
The Appew 2016 also received support from Josai University (Japan), Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia), Chulalongkorn University and Burapha University (Thailand) and the University of the Immaculate Conception (Philippines).
It aims to gather academia, scientists, pharmacy students, professional pharmacists and the general public to exchange and share their experiences and research results about all aspects of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, and to discuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. It also aims to build a networking platform for medical specialists, clinical specialists, medical professors, and academics.
The topics for the plenary lecture presented during the workshop were Opportunities and Challenges of the Pharmacy Profession in Afta Era, Pharmacy Education in Malaysia, Pharmacy Education in Indonesia in Afta, Pharmacy Education in Afta Era – Japan’s Point of View and Pharmacy Education in Afta Era – Thailand Perspective.
The recipient of the Shukri Distinguished Keynote Lecture Award was awarded to Associate Prof Dr Sindhchai Keokitichai from Burapha University for his contribution in promoting pharmaceutical education in Thailand.
A total of 400 participants from 11 countries such as Malaysia, Japan, the Philippines, China, Thailand, Myanmar and Palestine participated in the workshop.
The Appew 2016 was officiated by Health Ministry National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agencies director Dr Salmah Bahri. Also present were MSU president Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid and international and local delegates.
