KUALA LUMPUR: Tax­pay­ers paid up RM1.71 1 b i l l i o n in out­stand­ing taxes be­tween March 1 and Aug 31 un­der an of­fer of a re­duc­tion of penalty for vol­un­tary dis­clo­sure, the De­wan Rakyat was told yes­ter­day.

Deputy Fi­nance Min­is­ter Datuk Oth­man Aziz said RM1.407 bil­lion of the sum was in­come tax in­volv­ing 20,092 cases. An­other RM304 mil­lion were penalty re­ceipts in­volv­ing 32,207 cases.

“The of­fer was based on per­cent­age and du­ra­tion,” he said when re­ply­ing to a ques­tion from Datuk Shabudin Ya­haya (BNTasek Gel­u­gor) who also wanted to know whether the gov­ern­ment planned to ex­tend the “Re­duc­tion of Penalty f or Vol­un­tary Dis­clo­sure and Waiver of Tax In­crease for the Set­tle­ment of Tax Ar­rears” ini­tia­tive that
