‘Bersih has not met conditions’
PETALING JAYA: Police have denied claims that the Bersih 5 rally organiser has met conditions to hold the gathering on Nov 19.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said: “Officers in charge of the Dang Wangi and Brickfields districts did receive notices from the organiser. But both notices failed to comply with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.”
He said the notices stated Dataran Merdeka as the venue of the rally but did not include a consent letter from the mayor, as required under the law.
“We understand the organiser decided to assemble outside Dataran Merdeka. But to date, no notice regarding the change of venue has been submitted to the police.”
