MILO recently held a panel discussion on the correlation between children energy level, their attention span and standard of performance in school. Members of the panel comprised teachers, students, parents and nutrition experts.

At the event, insights from the MyBreakfast Study, Malaysia’s first comprehensive nationwide exercise on breakfast habits was also shared. The study, which involved 8,705 school children, showed that those who consumed malted beverages demonstrated a higher level of physical activity. It was also found that a larger proportion of malted drink consumers met the Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) as compared to nonconsumers.

Universiti Teknologi Mara centre of postgraduate studies head and faculty of sports science and recreation lecturer Dr Mahenderan Appukutty also disclosed that one in three schoolchildren showed low physical activity levels. This was especially prevalent among breakfast skippers.

“It is crucial that children consume the right nutritious food at regular intervals to enable them to perform at their best. This provides them with sufficient energy and nutrients to help improve their mental alertness so they can focus in class and stay energised for extra-curricular activities,” said Mahenderan.

Nestle Malaysia senior nutritionist Nurul Iliani Ahmad shared a simple solution for parents to provide the right nourishment to ensure their children have sufficient energy.

“By packing a healthy meal or snack with a convenient pack of Milo UHT, you will have ease of mind knowing that your children will not get hungry or go through energy deprivation, once they are out of your sight,” suggested Nurul. She added that packing a recess box also ensures a better diet and reinforces healthy eating habits.

Activ-Go in Milo, a unique blend of protomalt, minerals and vitamins such as Vitamin B, provides efficient release of energy from food to help children take on daily challenges. Milo also contains calcium to maintain stronger bones and teeth and Vitamin C for increased absorption of iron from food. Milo UHT is available in single servings of 125ml and 200ml packs at all convenient stores, mini markets, supermarkets and hypermarkets.
