Unimas gets RM50,000 grant
KUALA LUMPUR: The Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) yesterday presented a RM50,000 student grant to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
At an event yesterday, Bakti president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is the wife of the prime minister, handed a cheque for the amount to Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.
The grant, the second given to Unimas, is to help students from underprivileged families. The university received a similar grant of RM50,000 in 2000, Bernama reported.
Since 2006, Bakti has provided grants to Universiti Teknologi Petronas (RM20,000), International Islamic University of Malaysia (RM20,000), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (RM20,000), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (RM10,000) and Universiti Malaya (RM20,000).
Mohamad said money from the grant would be distributed to needy students from the interior and rural areas.
