Un­i­mas gets RM50,000 grant

KUALA LUMPUR: The Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion of Wives of Min­is­ters and Deputy Min­is­ters (Bakti) yes­ter­day pre­sented a RM50,000 stu­dent grant to Univer­siti Malaysia Sarawak (Un­i­mas).

At an event yes­ter­day, Bakti pres­i­dent Datin Seri Ros­mah Man­sor, who is the wife of the prime min­is­ter, handed a cheque for the amount to Un­i­mas vice-chan­cel­lor Prof Datuk Mo­hamad Kadim Suaidi.

The grant, the sec­ond given to Un­i­mas, is to help stu­dents from un­der­priv­i­leged fam­i­lies. The uni­ver­sity re­ceived a sim­i­lar grant of RM50,000 in 2000, Ber­nama re­ported.

Since 2006, Bakti has pro­vided grants to Univer­siti Te­knologi Petronas (RM20,000), In­ter­na­tional Is­lamic Uni­ver­sity of Malaysia (RM20,000), Univer­siti Ke­bangsaan Malaysia (RM20,000), Univer­siti Pen­didikan Sul­tan Idris (RM10,000) and Univer­siti Malaya (RM20,000).

Mo­hamad said money from the grant would be dis­trib­uted to needy stu­dents from the in­te­rior and ru­ral ar­eas.
