Under-enrolled Chinese schools may be relocated
KUALA LUMPUR: The government may relocate some under-enrolled national-type Chinese schools (SJKCs) to more densely populated areas in the future.
MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said he was aware that there is high demand for new schools in some populated areas in the country, but some schools barely have enough pupils to operate.
“Of course we can ask for new SJKCs, but at the same time we have schools with too few pupils.
“As of today, we have 13 schools with fewer than 10 pupils each. So we have to find the best strategy.
“If need be, we have to relocate all these schools, because we know there is demand for new schools as well,” he told a press conference after a meeting with stakeholders on Chinese education, here.
