THE MALAYSIAN Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present a special concert as a tribute to composers Robert Schumann and Anton Bruckner at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas at 8.30pm, tonight and tomorrow.

MPO will feature one of Schumann’s most popular concertos with pianist David Fray, regarded as the most original Bach player of his generation.

Piano Concerto in A minor was first performed in 1845 by Schumann’s pianist wife Clara.

MPO will also perform Bruckner’s Symphony No.4 in E flat. Nicknamed Romantic, this masterpiece offers a sense of spaciousness, timelessness, breadth and celestial majesty.

All concerts will be conducted by Constantin Trinks ( above, left), who received much recognition for the European premiere of Tan Dun’s The First Emperor.

This season will see his return to Munich for Cosi fan tutte and Arabella, as well as conducting new productions of Salome in Strasbourg and Wagner’s Ring in Vienna.

In addition to the concerts, Fray ( above, right) will be holding a recital on Sunday at 3pm at DFP of the much-loved piano works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Johannes Brahms.

On Nov 15, there will be a chamber concert featuring works by Joseph Haydn and Johannes Brahms.
