1-litre bottle cooking oil soon

The Sun (Malaysia) - - NEWS WITHOUT BORDERS -

KUALA LUMPUR: Subsidised cooking oil in one-litre bottles will be introduced in the near future, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

He said the move was to provide consumers with a choice as subsidised cooking oil is currently only available in one-litre plastic packets.

“The price of the new onelitre bottled cooking oil will be slightly more, as the packaging cost is less than 10 sen (for the plastic bag) while it is more than 40 sen each (for the bottle).

“I met with repackers on Wednesday. I wanted to make sure they are able to do this and we will announce it when everything is agreed,” he said.

The ministry had announced that the price of 1-litre cooking oil plastic packets will remain at RM2.50 but bottled cooking oil would be sold at market price effective Nov 1.

Earlier, when officiating at the Umno Veterans General Meeting in Batu Kurau, near Larut in Perak, Hamzah said the supply of cooking oil in the market was expected to be fully stabilised by today.

Hamzah also warned that the ministry would not hesitate to take stern action against retailers who refused to sell the 1-litre plastic packet cooking oil. – Bernama
