JOHOR BARU: The departure of several senior party leaders to form splinter parties is best described as “history repeating itself”, said Umno supreme council member Datuk Ahmad Maslan. Expressing his confidence Umno will bounce back from such setbacks, Ahmad said during the tenure of former president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Semangat 46 was formed following the party crisis in 1987 but was dissolved in 1996 when its members chose to rejoin the Barisan Nasional. “Umno has staved off its challenge and now with our former deputy president doing the same, I am confident we will prevail again,” he said at Johor Umno convention yesterday.
