Tod­dler run over af­ter fall­ing out of mov­ing car

JOHOR BARU: A two-year-old boy was killed in a hor­rific ac­ci­dent in Ulu Ti­ram near here on Satur­day.

Goh Hao Zheng Jay­den, who was seated in the back seat of a car his father was driv­ing, died af­ter he fell out of the mov­ing ve­hi­cle and was then run over by another ve­hi­cle.

In the 8.20pm in­ci­dent, the father was mak­ing a U-turn at Jalan Le­buh Ce­mer­lang in Ta­man Desa Cer­malang when one of the back pas­sen­ger doors sud­denly swung open, caus­ing the boy to be flung out onto the road.

The boy’s mother was seated in the front while Jay­den was alone at the back.

Seri Alam district po­lice chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Az­izi said the boy died while on the way to the Sul­tan Ismail Hospi­tal in Pan­dan.

“Please en­sure your child is fas­tened to the seat.

Also use the child lock, as some kids like to play with the knobs,” he added.

Jokhiri said par­ents should also use a child car seat for young chil­dren or en­sure an adult is seated with the child so that such in­ci­dents do not hap­pen.

The case is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated un­der Sec­tion 41(1) of the Road Trans­port Act 1987 for caus­ing death by reck­less and dan­ger­ous driv­ing, which car­ries a jail term of be­tween two and 10 years, and a fine of be­tween RM5,000 and RM20,000 upon con­vic­tion.
