Toddler run over after falling out of moving car
JOHOR BARU: A two-year-old boy was killed in a horrific accident in Ulu Tiram near here on Saturday.
Goh Hao Zheng Jayden, who was seated in the back seat of a car his father was driving, died after he fell out of the moving vehicle and was then run over by another vehicle.
In the 8.20pm incident, the father was making a U-turn at Jalan Lebuh Cemerlang in Taman Desa Cermalang when one of the back passenger doors suddenly swung open, causing the boy to be flung out onto the road.
The boy’s mother was seated in the front while Jayden was alone at the back.
Seri Alam district police chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Azizi said the boy died while on the way to the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Pandan.
“Please ensure your child is fastened to the seat.
Also use the child lock, as some kids like to play with the knobs,” he added.
Jokhiri said parents should also use a child car seat for young children or ensure an adult is seated with the child so that such incidents do not happen.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving, which carries a jail term of between two and 10 years, and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 upon conviction.
The scene at Jalan P. Ramlee in Penang during the floods yesterday.
