Dad stabs son to death af­ter quar­rel

JOHOR BARU: An un­em­ployed man stabbed his el­dest son to death fol­low­ing a quar­rel at their house in Ta­man Desa Jaya, Seri Alam, on Tues­day night.

Seri Alam po­lice district chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Az­izi said the 23-year-old son suc­cumbed to a knife wound on the left side of the chest.

“The son died in the liv­ing room of the house,” he added.

In the 7pm in­ci­dent, which hap­pened in front of the vic­tim’s mother, Jokhiri said the fa­ther also sus­tained two stab wounds, on the chest and ab­domen.

The 54-year old man is re­ported to be in sta­ble con­di­tion at the Sul­tan Ismail Hos­pi­tal in Pan­dan.

Jokhiri said in a state­ment that po­lice were alerted to the in­ci­dent by a mem­ber of the pub­lic. On ar­rival at the scene, po­lice found the man hold­ing the knife while stand­ing next to his son’s body.

“He re­fused to sur­ren­der. It took the po­lice an hour to coax him to give him­self up,” he said, adding that both the fa­ther and son were un­em­ployed.

The de­ceased has three other sib­lings who are still school­ing and the sole bread­win­ner of the house­hold is the mother, who works as can­teen helper at a fac­tory nearby.

Ini­tial po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed the quar­rel was over fi­nan­cial mat­ters. The case is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated un­der Sec­tion 302 of the Pe­nal Code for mur­der.
