Dad stabs son to death after quarrel
JOHOR BARU: An unemployed man stabbed his eldest son to death following a quarrel at their house in Taman Desa Jaya, Seri Alam, on Tuesday night.
Seri Alam police district chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Azizi said the 23-year-old son succumbed to a knife wound on the left side of the chest.
“The son died in the living room of the house,” he added.
In the 7pm incident, which happened in front of the victim’s mother, Jokhiri said the father also sustained two stab wounds, on the chest and abdomen.
The 54-year old man is reported to be in stable condition at the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Pandan.
Jokhiri said in a statement that police were alerted to the incident by a member of the public. On arrival at the scene, police found the man holding the knife while standing next to his son’s body.
“He refused to surrender. It took the police an hour to coax him to give himself up,” he said, adding that both the father and son were unemployed.
The deceased has three other siblings who are still schooling and the sole breadwinner of the household is the mother, who works as canteen helper at a factory nearby.
Initial police investigations revealed the quarrel was over financial matters. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
