PETALING JAYA: A policeman accidentally shot himself in the thigh while he was chasing a suspect in Persiaran Industri Bandar Sri Damansara on Tuesday.

Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Supt Mohd Ali Thamby said the incident happened at about 7pm when two policemen were patrolling the area and spotted three foreigners, believed to be Africans, behaving suspiciously inside a car parked on the side of the road.

On seeing the police, the suspects sped off in their car.

“The police gave chase and managed to intercept the car at a traffic light. One of the policemen then shot at one of the car tyres,” Mohd Ali said.

As the policemen were approaching the car, one of the passengers burst out of the vehicle and ran.

While one of the policemen was giving chase, his firearm accidentally discharged and he was shot in the thigh.

The other policeman stopped to help his injured colleague and all three men managed to flee on foot, said Mohd Ali.
