FBM KLCI up slightly, thanks to late buying
BURSA Malaysia’s main index finished slightly higher yesterday on last-minute buying support in key heavyweights, led by Sime Darby.
The multinational conglomerate, which contributed 1.24 points to the FBM KLCI, rose 11 sen to RM8.06 with 4.93 million shares changing hands.
The market barometer was in negative territory for most of the trading session but picked up momentum late in the day to close just 1.06 points better at 1,630.38.
On the broader market, decliners led advancers 547 to 238, while 321 counters were unchanged, 617 untraded and 26 suspended.
Among the heavyweights counters, IOI Corp rose 4 sen to RM4.40, Hong Leong Bank climbed 8 sen to RM13.20, RHB edged up 5 sen to RM4.75, Petronas Dagangan went up 12 sen to RM23.58 and Genting Malaysia improved 2 sen to RM4.72.
The gainers list was led by Malaysia Smelting Corp, which was up 34 sen to RM4.29; Huat Lai, 20 sen to RM5.04; Perusahaan Sadur Timah, 16 sen to RM6.91; MAHB, 13 sen to RM6.33, and Amway, 12 sen to RM7.64.
A dealer said the emergence of bargain hunters nibbling on cheaper quality stocks lifted the key index to settle near the day’s high of 1,631.67. – Bernama
