BLUEFIELDS: A Caribbean storm verg­ing on a hurricane spun to­wards the coasts of Costa Rica and Nicaragua yes­ter­day, prompt­ing evac­u­a­tions and red alerts ahead of “life-threat­en­ing” flash flood­ing. In Bluefields, a Nicaraguan city of 45,000 in­hab­i­tants di­rectly in the storm’s path, there was pan­icked buy­ing of bat­tery­pow­ered lamps, bot­tled wa­ter and canned food. “We’re ready to run or stay put,” one res­i­dent, Do­lene Miller, said. – AFP
