House-break­ing gang nabbed

KUALA MUDA: Po­lice crip­pled a five-man house break-in gang here yes­ter­day.

District po­lice chief ACP Md Zukir Md Isa said in the 9am in­ci­dent, a po­lice pa­trol team chased the sus­pects for more than 20 min­utes be­fore cor­ner­ing them near SMK Dato Bi­jaya Se­tia.

“The pub­lic had ear­lier alerted us that four men were seen be­hav­ing sus­pi­ciously in a car in front of a bank.

“The driver sped off when the pa­trol car ap­proached, prompt­ing the po­lice­men to pur­sue the sus­pects,” he said.

He said sev­eral other pa­trol units then joined in the chase, which re­sulted in the car ram­ming into a lamp post.

“One of the sus­pects jumped out from the car and tried to at­tack the po­lice­men with a ma­chete, forc­ing them to fire a shot which hit the sus­pect’s leg.”

Zukir said po­lice then sent the in­jured sus­pect to the Sul­tan Ab­dul Halim Hospi­tal in Sun­gai Pe­tani for treat­ment and ar­rested the other three sus­pects.

House-break­ing equip­ment were also found in the car.

He added fol­low­ing the ar­rest, po­lice picked up a fifth sus­pect at a house in Ta­man Seri Angsana at 12.30pm.
