Disabled woman dies in fire

KUALA LUMPUR: A disabled woman died in a fire at her flat unit in a People’s Housing Project block in Salak Selatan here yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said the remains of Chang Peng Kiew, 57, were found with 80% burns lying on a sofa in the living room of the unit.

“In the incident at about 5pm, 50% of the house was destroyed,” he said.

According to him, a fire-engine and a team of six firemen from the Bandar Tun Razak fire station rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire within minutes. – Bernama
