New Legion laptops have landed

LENOVO’S gaming laptop series Legion has finally landed on Malaysian shores.

In the new Legion lineup are two 15.6in laptops – the Y720 series and Y520 series – both powered by 7th Generation Intel Core processors (Kaby Lake), and paired with a Nvidia GTX 1060 discrete graphics in the Y720 series and a Nvidia GTX 1050 in the Y520 series.

The Y520, which is available now, comes in four configurat­ions.

The basic configurat­ion, at RM3,299, includes a 7th Generation Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor, Windows 10 Home, 4GB of DDR4 RAM, 1TB of HDD (5400rpm) storage, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5.

At RM4,219, the Y520 is fitted with a 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5 instead.

For RM4,919, there’s an additional 128GB of M.2 PCIE storage along with an upgraded Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5.

The highest configurat­ion for the Y520 has 8GB of DDR4 memory, 256GB of M.2 PCIE storage, and 2TB of HDD (5400rpm) storage.

All Y520 models produce 1080p resolution, and sport a simple red backlit keyboard.

Lenovo was more vague about the Legion Y720. What is known is that prices start at RM6,099, and that it will be available at the end of

March. In this configurat­ion, the laptop comes with a 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, Windows 10 Home, 8GB of DDR memory, 1TB of HDD (5400rpm) storage, and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DDR5. All units will feature multicolou­red backlit keyboard. The Y720 stands out by being the first laptop to support Dolby Atmos for enhancing the surround sound effect of content played through headphones, and the highest-end model will be fitted with a 4K display option (3840x2160). The Y720 is also touted as being capable of supporting virtual reality, and has the option of a builtin integrated Xbox One wireless receiver. However, it is unknown which configurat­ion of the Y720 will a carry these features.

As for battery life, the Y720 is rated at five hours, while the Y520 at for hours.

“Lenovo has always been committed to elevating the gaming scene in Malaysia,” said Lenovo Central Asia Pacific’s Malaysia and Singapore country general manager Khoo Hung Chuan at the launch.

“Recently, we partnered with Microsoft to bring fans the ESL One tournament in Genting Highlands. Not only that, Lenovo has collaborat­ed with Intel for a League of Legends tournament in the Southeast Asian region, dubbed the League of Champions.”
