SUBANG JAYA: Police have nabbed six students, including foreigners, from higher learning institutions, who had turned to a life of crime by peddling drugs.

Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said following a tip-off, the district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) team saw two men at a lobby of an apartment in USJ 1.

“The team went to the apartment at about 10pm following a tip-off. The duo, a local and a Sri Lankan in their 20s, were seen acting suspiciously. The police immediately conducted a search and found them carrying 3kg and 7kg slabs of ganja in separate backpacks,” he told a press conference at the Subang Jaya district police headquarters here yesterday.

Upon arresting the duo, investigators raided their apartment unit on the 11th floor.

Mohammad Azlin said police arrested another four individuals and seized several cubes of ganja in the house.

“This time, there were two locals, a Sudanese and a Sri Lankan. They were aged between 20 and 22.

“All for the sake of making big and fast money, the youths risked life and limb by resorting to crime,” he added.

He said the syndicate is fairly new and the drugs were meant for local consumption with each slab of ganja worth RM2,000.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39A(2) of the same act, which carries the mandatory death penalty.
