Viet­nam’s Little Mer­maid scores big with 7 golds

PETALING JAYA: Viet­nam’s Little Mer­maid, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, over­shad­owed Singapore’s Olympic cham­pion Joseph School­ing by sweep­ing seven golds in swim­ming. School­ing won six af­ter scal­ing down his num­ber of events from 10 in 2015.

Nguyen dom­i­nated her events at the Na­tional Aquatic Cen­tre in Bukit Jalil, win­ning seven gold medals and three sil­vers, and break­ing two Games records and a fur­ther three Viet­namese na­tional records.

The 20-year-old cap­tain in the Viet­namese army won the women’s 200m in­di­vid­ual med­ley by nearly 5sec, and added the 50m back­stroke gold to her collection last Fri­day.
