World champs de­liver Cambodia’s gold

PETALING JAYA: Two world cham­pi­ons, Ke Leng and Ouk Srey­mom, en­sured Cambodia didn’t re­turn empty-handed as they won their coun­try’s gold medal in petanque last Thurs­day.

They de­feated Thailand’s Phan­tipha Wongchu­vej and Pataratida Meepak 13-10 at the women’s dou­bles fi­nal.

Ear­lier, the two Cam­bo­di­ans beat their Viet­namese, Mayn­mar and In­done­sian coun­ter­parts 13-8, 13-1, 13-5 re­spec­tively.

Ouk Srey­mom was crowned the world cham­pion of petanque in 2017 at a com­pe­ti­tion held in Bel­gium while Ke Leng earned her first and sec­ond world cham­pion ti­tles in 2013 in France and in 2015 in Thailand.

Cambodia’s other golds were de­liv­ered by Sorn Seavmey in women’s taek­wondo and Khun Dima in kick­box­ing.
