Ti­mor-Leste chops down 3 bronzes

PETALING JAYA: Taek­wondo ex­po­nent So­nia Martins Soares, 19, de­liv­ered one of Ti­mor-Leste’s three medals at the 29th SEA Games when she won the bronze in the fin­weight (be­low 46kg) ky­orugi event on Mon­day.

Soares shared the bronze with In­done­sia’s Dhean Ti­ta­nia while Thailand’s Ju­lanan Khan­tiku­lanon and Viet­nam’s Truong Thi Kim Tuy took gold and sil­ver re­spec­tively.

She was one of the four taek­wondo ex­po­nents from Ti­mor-Leste which sent a con­tin­gent of 50 ath­letes. They had the small­est con­tin­gent among the 11 par­tic­i­pat­ing South­east Asian coun­tries.

Ti­mor-Leste got its other bronzes from karate through Ana Da Costa Da Silva Pinto Belo in the women’s ky­orugi be­low 49kg cat­e­gory and fut­sal.
