Timor-Leste chops down 3 bronzes
PETALING JAYA: Taekwondo exponent Sonia Martins Soares, 19, delivered one of Timor-Leste’s three medals at the 29th SEA Games when she won the bronze in the finweight (below 46kg) kyorugi event on Monday.
Soares shared the bronze with Indonesia’s Dhean Titania while Thailand’s Julanan Khantikulanon and Vietnam’s Truong Thi Kim Tuy took gold and silver respectively.
She was one of the four taekwondo exponents from Timor-Leste which sent a contingent of 50 athletes. They had the smallest contingent among the 11 participating Southeast Asian countries.
Timor-Leste got its other bronzes from karate through Ana Da Costa Da Silva Pinto Belo in the women’s kyorugi below 49kg category and futsal.
