Gold in the most unusual place
PETALING JAYA: The Philippines found gold in the most unusual place at the 29th SEA Games by winning the first-ever ice hockey event. They scored a 5-4 win over Thailand in the finals to become the inaugural champions last Thursday.
The Philippines also triumphed in another sport that is considered unconventional in their country.
The Filipinos also struck gold in the men’s fours event of the lawn bowls. The team of Emmanuel Portacio, Curte Robert Guarin, Leoncio Carreon Jr, and Ronald Lising upset hosts Malaysia 16-14 in the championship round. Thailand took the bronze in the men’s fours.
