SYD­NEY: Aus­tralia is tight­en­ing English re­quire­ments for for­eign stu­dents in what it said yes­ter­day is a bid to im­prove stan­dards across its in­ter­na­tional ed­u­ca­tion market. There are over 550,000 in­ter­na­tional stu­dents in Aus­tralia. Cur­rently, prospec­tive over­seas stu­dents can take an in­ten­sive English course to pre­pare for fur­ther stud­ies if they do not have other qual­i­fi­ca­tions show­ing abil­ity to study in the lan­guage. Now they will also have to take a new test for lan­guage skills be­fore en­rolling. – AFP
