#AtTheEdge takes it to the street
Some 400 people – a coalition of journalists and members of the media, as well as activists, lawyers, politicians and the public – showed up on Saturday, August 8 at Central Market to support the #AtTheEdge rally, also known as the #808. The people, who began their march towards the Bar Council headquarters at 11am, protested the three-month suspension of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily. The procession was also a show of solidarity for the whistleblower site Sarawak Report, which has

been blocked within the country. Malaysian police has obtained a warrant of arrest for its UK-based editor Clare Rewcastle Brown, who has been accused of conspiring to topple Najib Razak.
Participants of the rally wore black and blue to ‘symbolise the bashed up condition of press freedom in Malaysia’, the bruising of media through the clampdown, and restrictions on press freedom and people’s right to information.
