We are family
What makes a family? The answer to that question is more complicated than you think, as founder and project director Steven Lee discovered when he chose ‘Defining Family’ as the theme for the ninth Kuala Lumpur International Photo Awards. ‘Samesex marriages, LGBT and single-parent families... are challenging the traditional definitions of the family, and I thought that the theme would throw up interesting imagery from around the world,’ he said.
‘Colors in the rain’ by Malaysian Affendi Alias is one of the many entries received from around the world, and is a contender for the Best South-East Asian Entry prize. Keep an eye on its website in mid-July for the winners announcement, with the awards ceremony and exhibition taking place from September 9 to 19 at White Box in Publika.
