Time Out Kuala Lumpur - - Learn Something New -

So you know your bell hooks and suffragettes. But are you as familiar with local nationalists and feminists Khatijah Sidek and Shamsiah Fakeh as you are with the former? Well then, it’s about time to focus on feminism in Malaysia, and maybe even take an active role in local feminist organisations. A good place to start is the All Women’s Action Society (AWAM). Founded in 1985, the NGO provides training and public education campaigns on various topics that include women’s rights, genderbased violence, leadership and advocacy, and more, all with a Malaysian slant. à85 Jalan 21/1, Sea Park, PJ (03 7877 4221/www.awam.org.my).
