NEW Cherating Steak House A679 Jalan Berserah, Kuantan (09 568 8968).

A clean washroom is a sign of good things to come. Cherating Steak House’s decor is a mix of quirky surf memorabilia, rock collectibles, vintage Chinese posters, and vintage car number plates. The menu is a mix of sashimi and Western selections, the scallops come highly recommended, and we think it’s a good place for a date. Cherating Steak House also has live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. Child friendly. Credit cards accepted. Disabled friendly. Free parking. Wed– Mon, 12noon–3pm; 6pm–1am. $$$

NEW Sherwood Steak House A19, Jalan Teluk Sisek, Kuantan (09 566 3968).

Kuantan has a surprisingly high amount of Western dining options, and Sherwood swells the upper ranks. Don’t be intimidated by the tacky neon signage, keep a lookout for the lobster, and you’ve found the place. Sherwood is well-known for its steaks, and it allegedly has the same owner as Cherating Steak House. Wed–Mon, 12noon–3pm; 6pm–1am. Closed Tuesdays. $$$
