Hav­ing branched out from KL, Es­pres­solab serves aro­matic cof­fees with clas­sic cakes as well as a trio of liquored cakes. Per­haps the only liquored cakes in Ipoh, they are to die for. The tiramisu is in­fused with Kahlua and topped with caramelised al­monds while the salted caramel choco­late cake has an in­trigu­ing whisky flavour. Go there for cof­fee and cake as the food is not as spec­tac­u­lar.

Plan b. Roast­ers

Just like the KL branches, Ipoh’s Plan b. Roast­ers is so­phis­ti­cated and fit for the me­trop­o­lis. Trans­formed from an old fur­ni­ture ware­house into an in­dus­trial-chic café with high ceil­ings, ex­posed beams and white-washed bricks, Plan b. has a vin­tage aura and an abun­dance of light. Food is served in gen­er­ous por­tions to the stan­dard that the Big Group has al­ways main­tained.
