Espressolab

Having branched out from KL, Espressolab serves aromatic coffees with classic cakes as well as a trio of liquored cakes. Perhaps the only liquored cakes in Ipoh, they are to die for. The tiramisu is infused with Kahlua and topped with caramelised almonds while the salted caramel chocolate cake has an intriguing whisky flavour. Go there for coffee and cake as the food is not as spectacular.

105 Jalan Canning Estate, Ipoh (05 546 6648/www.espressolab. asia).

Plan b. Roasters

Just like the KL branches, Ipoh’s Plan b. Roasters is sophisticated and fit for the metropolis. Transformed from an old furniture warehouse into an industrial-chic café with high ceilings, exposed beams and white-washed bricks, Plan b. has a vintage aura and an abundance of light. Food is served in generous portions to the standard that the Big Group has always maintained. Your bill will most likely exceed RM30 per person. 75 Jalan Panglima, Ipoh (05 259 8286/ thebiggroup.co).
