156 Jalan Ampang, KL (03 2725 4649/www.face meltssubwich). It’s a bit like Johnny Rockets with its bright retro vinyl upholstery and vintage posters, but Melts offers a kid-friendly vibe that won’t grate on adult sensibilities. Young taste buds will be impressed with the restaurant’s creamy milkshakes but when it comes to mains, the kids are probably better off sharing Mum’s and Dad’s as the portions are pretty generous. The signature dish you can’t leave without trying is the Philly cheese steak sandwich, stuffed with a glorious mush of thinly sliced grilled New Zealand beef, melted cheese, sautéed onions and capsicums. Pair it with chilli cheese fries or nachos. We’re sure the kids won’t complain. Pork-free. Halal. Child friendly. Highchairs available. Daily, 10am-10pm. $$
