Ever wondered what makes your toddler so eager to help? Dr Felix Warneken, a professor of psychology at Harvard University, developed tests to see whether altruism is apparent in toddlers. He also conducted the experiment on chimpanzees to find out how big a role socialisation plays. The results were conclusive, proving that human beings are not only naturally altruistic from a young age, but are more than happy to act selflessly. Their hairy counterparts displayed altruistic elements similar to human beings (although undeniably to a lesser degree), showing that selflessness may be somewhat inherent.
