Sophie was a public artist with a company in London that created art installations and murals for the benefit of the community. One of her most interesting projects was one which implemented climbing walls in state schools using the students’ artwork as the backdrop. This led her to set design, skills which she put to good use when she came to Malaysia and was involved in the design of all her children’s school productions. She also ran workshops for children teaching painting and sculpture. All these activities led to Sophie turning her attention to interior design. She decided to open her own company after dabbling in the business and making all the necessary contacts to justify doing it as a proper business.
The norm for interiors tends to be safe and minimalistic, but Sophie’s trademark use of vibrant colours is what sets her apart. She believes in ‘upcycling’ (refurbishing to make something new) furniture, using lighting to enhance a space, and bringing outdoor living inside, taking advantage of tropical living. Being a one-woman show has its obvious disadvantages, but it also means that she is utterly involved
