Avillion Port Dickson
3rd Mile, Jalan Pantai, Port Dickson (06 647 6688/www.avillionportdickson.com). Highly recommended for those travelling with little ones, Avillion has a petting zoo where kids can feed the animals, a safe and secure kids’ club with soft floors for rough and tumble moments, and a fantastic kids’ pool with a slide. Guests with families rave about the staff’s attention to detail and cheerful manner. With a variety of accommodation options on offer for those with kids and F&B discounts thrown in for larger families, Avillion really does live up to the hype. What can we say about Club Med’s childfriendly facilities that hasn’t already been said? Part of the famous French chain, this luxury resort employs an all-inclusive concept for lodgings, food, facilities, sports, games and shows. Billed as a ‘Holiday Package’, the resort is a village located in the heart of an 80-hectare tropical park with 4km of fine sandy beaches. No age group is left out with Baby Club Med open for the very little ones (four months to two-years-old), Petit Club Med, for two to under-fours, and Mini Club Med for those from four to 10-years-old. Teenagers are catered for as well with Club Med Passworld (open for those between the ages of 11 and 18). The perfect recipe for a great family holiday. Don’t forget to pop by the turtle sanctuary next door for some marine conservation education for the young ones.

For a holiday to remember, spend a mesmerizing evening firefly-watching on Cherating River, located just 45 minutes away from the hotel.
Mutiara Taman Negara Resort
Kuala Tahan, Jerantut (09 266 3500/2200/ www.mutiarahotels.com). First things first – you’re in the middle of the jungle. So there will definitely be mosquitoes, possibly monkeys on the balcony and the water pressure is more than likely to be low. All that said, Mutiara has great staff who greet each guest like a friend, pretty good family-sized chalets, bunk beds for the kids, a sit-out living area good for card games, and best of all, the hotel organises well-guided trips into Taman Negara, thoroughly enjoyable for both adults and children (five years and above).
