Begin­ners Hip Hop with Jes Chow

Some­times dubbed street dance or ur­ban dance, hip hop is a means of move­ment ex­pres­sion, es­pe­cially among youth. Let Jes Chow walk your eight- to 15-year-old through the safe and cor­rect tech­nique of break­ing, pop­ping, lock­ing and free styling. Begin­ners are wel­come. Chow, who in­structs through­out Asia, is also a chore­og­ra­pher and a fit­ness coach who will have your kids break­ing a sweat while break danc­ing. Jun 6-9, 2-3.30pm. The Dragon Run

The world’s first in­flat­able mar­tial arts-in­spired course is com­ing to Gent­ing. The Dragon Run in­cor­po­rates mar­tial arts el­e­ments such as taek­wondo, Muay Thai, sumo and jeet kune do in its ob­sta­cle cour­ses. Open to par­tic­i­pants ages 12 and above, the 6K Dragon Run takes place at The Ranch in Re­sorts World Gent­ing. Fol­low­ing the run, check out the Dragon Vil­lage car­ni­val, which is open to the pub­lic. The car­ni­val will de­light kids of all ages with its bouncy cas­tles, bal­loons, games, food stands and more. May 14-15, 7am-6pm. From RM129.

ECO Con­ser­va­tion Camp in Pa­hang

The camp in­cludes an ad­ven­tur­ous hike to the sum­mit of Ulu Tampit, classes on how to build vi­var­i­ums, and lessons on con­ser­va­tion. Out­door ex­pe­di­tions to the Krau Wildlife Re­serve, Deer­land and the ele­phant sanc­tu­ary let kids get up close to the wildlife they’ve stud­ied about. May 28-30; Jul 25-27. RM460 per per­son. Jazz Dance Work­shop with Lex Lak­sh­man

KL­PAC, Sen­tul Park, Jalan Stra­chan, off Jalan Sul­tan Azlan Shah, KL (03 4047 9000/ www.kl­pac.org). There’s so much more to this genre of dance than jazz hands. This up­beat work­shop for seven- to 15-year-olds is all about unique moves, fancy foot­work, big leaps and quick turns. Even so, par­tic­i­pants have free rein to in­ter­pret and present the steps in their per­sonal style. The kids are likely to take a shine to the charis­matic in­struc­tor, Lex Lak­sh­man, a sea­soned chore­og­ra­pher with vast ex­pe­ri­ence work­ing with mu­si­cals and choral pro­duc­tions.
