Stick­ing out like a sore thumb in res­i­den­tial Ta­man Desa, GravyBaby’s glitzy façade screams Hol­ly­wood glam. In­side, faux mar­ble coun­ter­tops, wall-to-wall mir­rors and di­rec­tor’s chairs sus­tain the im­pres­sion of be­ing on a movie set. The di­verse West­ern menu takes time to peruse, es­pe­cially be­cause ev­ery­thing sounds scrumptious.

That be­ing said, pies are the or­der of the day and, as the restau­rant’s name im­plies, are doused in savoury gravy. It’s hard to go wrong with clas­sic

com­fort food such as the Chicken, Mush­room and Tar­ragon pie, but if you’re feel­ing ad­ven­tur­ous, opt for non-tra­di­tional pies such as the Blue Cheese, Leek and Po­tato pie or the Pump­kin and Apri­cot Tagine. Quench your thirst with the Cu­cum­ber and Shah Alam hibis­cus lemon­ade or the Straw­berry Gra­nola milk­shake, and be sure to leave room for dessert – the White Choco­late Cake with rasp­berry and mas­car­pone is ab­so­lutely divine.

And if you’re ever crav­ing pie in the city, the pie spe­cial­ists opened their sec­ond out­let on Jalan P Ram­lee in late July. Pork-free. Child-friendly. Credit cards ac­cepted. Daily, 7am-12mid­night.
