St Giles The Gardens

Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, KL (03 2268 1188/www.stgiles.com). This five-star hotel is conveniently parked next to two of Malaysia’s most frequented shopping malls, The Gardens and Mid Valley Megamall. The spanking clean hotel was one of KL’s firsts to disallow smoking in both public areas and guest rooms, thus ensuring no secondhand smoke getting into your children’s lungs. The infinity pool makes for stunning family photos and the hotel’s close proximity to the malls makes it easy to lug shopping bags back to the room.

NEW The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur

6 Jalan Stesen Sentral 2, Kuala Lumpur Sentral, KL (03 2727 1111/ www.stregiskualalumpur.com). This combination of hotel, mall and theme park is pretty much foolproof. Sunway Resort’s swimming pool has a marvellous man-made waterfall while the adjacent theme park features attractions like a manmade surf beach and thrilling water rides like the Vuvuzela. There’s also the Extreme Park, Wildlife Park, Amusement Park and Scream Park. Not tired yet? The adjoining mall houses a skating rink, archery range, bowling alley, cinema and gaming arcade. Be sure to check out Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, Sunway Lagoon’s latest attraction, if your kids are fans of the children’s TV channel.

The Westin Kuala Lumpur

199 Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL (03 2731 8333/ www.thewestinkualalumpur.com). The Westin Kuala Lumpur makes it very clear that kids are regarded as guests of honour. Kids are gifted complimentary welcome bags stuffed with treats, while parents of infants and toddlers receive their own special goodie bags containing Band Aids, antiseptic wipes, socket covers and a nightlight. The Kids’ Club has a mini playground for kids and some staff are on hand if you don’t have a nanny. Open daily from 9am to 7pm, the facility is for children aged from two to 12 years old. The Discovery Room is a hub of activity and all children receive a Discovery Pack filled with everything they need to explore KL: a compass, a membership bracelet, a disposable camera, a canteen and a collectible travel passport. To top it all off, The Westin offers an exclusive Eat Well menu for kids, which aims to instill the importance of healthy eating in little diners.
