Back in the day when women were ex­pected to be ex­cel­lent home­mak­ers and posses skills aimed at keep­ing hus­band and chil­dren con­tent, sewing was up there with keep­ing house and cook­ing. Fast for­ward a few decades and the eman­ci­pa­tion of those old-fash­ioned val­ues, we now see the art of sewing en­joy­ing a revival.

Hobby N Cof­fee is a space where you can at­tend a sewing class cour­tesy of Lit­tle Tai­lors. The kids’ cre­ative sewing classes fo­cus on the basics of ma­chine sewing and within a cou­ple hours, kids are sur­pris­ingly able to pro­duce a proper cush­ion cover! There are bales of colour­ful fab­ric to choose from and the friendly, en­thu­si­as­tic in­struc­tor is al­ways close at hand to en­sure the kids know what to do next. And, this isn’t solely for the girls; boys should be en­cour­aged to take up ac­tiv­i­ties like this too. Once the basics have been mas­tered, more com­pli­cated projects can be taken on like bags, clutches and pen­cil cases.

Kids’ (aged eight to 12) classes are usu­ally held on a Satur­day with morn­ing and af­ter­noon ses­sions avail­able. Each ses­sion lasts 2.5 hours and costs RM200 with a spe­cial pack­age avail­able at RM420 per month for three ses­sions.
