Back in the day when women were expected to be excellent homemakers and posses skills aimed at keeping husband and children content, sewing was up there with keeping house and cooking. Fast forward a few decades and the emancipation of those old-fashioned values, we now see the art of sewing enjoying a revival.
Hobby N Coffee is a space where you can attend a sewing class courtesy of Little Tailors. The kids’ creative sewing classes focus on the basics of machine sewing and within a couple hours, kids are surprisingly able to produce a proper cushion cover! There are bales of colourful fabric to choose from and the friendly, enthusiastic instructor is always close at hand to ensure the kids know what to do next. And, this isn’t solely for the girls; boys should be encouraged to take up activities like this too. Once the basics have been mastered, more complicated projects can be taken on like bags, clutches and pencil cases.
Kids’ (aged eight to 12) classes are usually held on a Saturday with morning and afternoon sessions available. Fabric and all equipment are included in the price and classes are kept small so everyone gets enough personal attention. 12 Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 2, TTDI, KL (016 228 6322/fb.com/LittleTailors). Each session lasts 2.5 hours and costs RM200 with a special package available at RM420 per month for three sessions.
