Everything is oversized along the salt trail. Pandan towered six feet tall and there was a banana tree with leaves up to 12 feet long. Detoured around a swarm of penyengat (stingers) along the trail.
As we got closer to Buayan, we were greeted by patches of paddy fields and river crossings. Reaching Buayan, we were advised to make a detour around the school, so the students wouldn’t get distracted during class!
Spent the evening in the river, looking up at silhouettes straddling the hanging bridge, against a glowing crimson-azure sky. Sardine, salted fish and white rice never tasted so good.
