TIME TO COAST
Lifestyle bikes don’t get any cooler than the Quinn and Ruckus from Coast Cycles
If aerodynamic road-bikes with their sleek profiles and thin wheels come across as too delicate and too serious for the urban runabout; and big burly mountain bikes a bit too much of an overkill for that park outing after work, these two offerings might just pique your interest. Designed by home-grown bike brand Coast Cycles and made exactly to stringent specifications in Taiwan, the Quinn cargo bicycle and Ruckus fun bike are everything a fun-loving cyclist would love to have.
The Quinn MINI
Designed with utility in mind, the clean cut Quinn is every bit the eco-loving executive’s dream. Instead of garish fit-on carriers, the Quinn’s design harmoniously blends in centralised compartments for carrying light loads right into the design of its frame. Judging from the way it looks, it’s little wonder that this nifty little two-wheeler is the recipient of numerous design awards, including the if Design Award 2016, Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2015 and Taipei Cycle D&I Awards 2016 for the compact commuter category. During the course of a week-long test ride, the Quinn has more than once proved it’s practicality as a commuter bike that you’d want to just get on and ride out everywhere. The bike’s stylishly cute looks may turn heads on the streets, but what’s most appealing is the bike’s ability to carry a bag neatly without compromising your cycling experience or making you look like a juggler on wheels. Impressively, the bike handles well with a great deal of responsiveness. What’s most memorable though, is how fun it feels to be riding a smaller yet immensely comfortable little bike which you can take everywhere without it worrying about being unable to navigate round busy streets or tight corners around the foot of heartland estates. Would it make this writer rethink commuting to and from the office on bicycle? Most definitely.
