The Malaysian Society of In­fec­tious Dis­eases and Chemo­ther­apy (MSIDC) has launched the Vaxin Check for Adults cam­paign to en­cour­age adults of cer­tain back­grounds and pro­files to get the nec­es­sary vac­ci­na­tions. Here’s what MSIDC Pres­i­dent Pro­fes­sor Dr Zam­beri Sekawi recommended... Group: Would be par­ents, par­ents and child-min­ders Recommended vac­cines: In­fluenza, MMR, chicken pox, Tdap (tetanus, diph­the­ria and per­tus­sis) and po­lio Group: Peo­ple above 50 Recommended vac­cines: In­fluenza, per­tus­sis, pneu­mo­coc­cal and shin­gles Group: Adults with chronic health con­di­tions like lung dis­ease, di­a­betes, heart dis­ease and chronic liver dis­ease Recommended vac­cines: In­fluenza, pneu­mo­coc­cal, hep­ati­tis A and hep­ati­tis B Group: Trav­ellers Recommended vac­cines: In­fluenza, pneu­mo­coc­cal, meningo­coc­cal, ty­phoid, hep­ati­tis A, yel­low fever, Ja­panese en­cephali­tis, tetanus, diph­the­ria, acel­lu­lar per­tus­sis and MMR vac­cines The doctor also recommended the HPV and hep­ati­tis B vac­cines for those who are sex­u­ally ac­tive; the tetanus jab for those who en­joy ac­tiv­i­ties that carry the risk of wounds; and for those who love eat­ing food out­side, the hep­ati­tis A and ty­phoid fever vac­cines are a must.
