Ok, so the last thing we want to put in our mouths are gold chicken nuggets but it won’t be long be­fore some­one de­cides to put that on a menu—since the lat­est food trend around the globe is edi­ble gold. In Ja­pan and in the UK, peo­ple are al­ready dig­ging into gold ice­cream and gold sushi, the lat­ter, be­ing a seafood sushi roll wrapped in sea­weed and edi­ble gold leaf. There’s even a gold burger that con­sists of beef, fois gras, black truf­fled cheese and saf­fron mayo, tucked be­tween two 24carat gold buns, avail­able as street food from the UK Food Truck, The Road­ery. It seems like ev­ery­one is get­ting into the gold rush!
