Make Your Voice Heard
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a developmental condition, is a global issue that affects over 1 per cent of the world’s population. That’s an estimated 70 million people worldwide affected by autism. This year, Kiehl’s partners with actor Matthew McConaughey for their 2017 Global Philanthropic Campaign benefitting Autism Speaks to raise awareness for autism, and work to change the future for children who struggle with the condition. Here, Matthew shares more on this special partnership:
WHY HAVE YOU PARTNERED WITH KIEHL’S ON THIS PROJECT? Kiehl’s has a strong commitment to philanthropy and they often choose to support causes that not many people are talking about. That is why I decided to collaborate with Kiehl’s and Autism Speaks. I also am and have been a fan of their products and the work they continue to do. I knew it would be a good fit!
HOW CAN ONE HELP CHILDREN AFFECTED BY THE AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER? The best way to support these children and their families is providing them with access to early
detection and intervention services. Detection can happen as early as 18 months in some cases. Research supports that children on the autism spectrum that receive support services early on have more opportunities for improved development and independence. WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE LIMITED-EDITION DESIGN? From a painting that my oldest son Levi painted. HOW DO YOU KEEP A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE? My mother always told us when it’s light outside, we should be outside, and to try and break a sweat every day. Those are two things I still try to do. WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN PHILANTHROPIC INITIATIVES? Life feels most fulfilling when you can do things for others that make a difference. With my Just Keep Livin Foundation, we are hitting kids at a very pivotal time in their lives and I am honoured to work with these amazing kids.
