Euro­pean Day of Lan­guages 2016

On Satur­day, the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion Rep­re­sen­ta­tion in Malta cel­e­brated the Euro­pean Day of Lan­guages in St Anne’s Square, Sliema. L-Għaqda talMalti – Univer­sità helped in the or­gan­i­sa­tion of this event.

Par­tic­i­pat­ing in the event, and each man­ning a dif­fer­ent stand, were the Span­ish Em­bassy, The Deaf So­ci­ety, the Rus­sian Cen­tre for Sci­ence and Cul­ture in Malta, Malta Univer­sity Lan­guage School, DESA, The Na­tional Book Coun­cil, HOASA and Al­liance Française.

Those at­tend­ing were pre­sented with read­ings in dif­fer­ent lan­guages with a par­tic­u­lar fo­cus on the works of Wil­liam Shake­speare.

Dif­fer­ent free­bies were handed out in­clud­ing bal­loons with words which are dif­fi­cult to trans­late, post­cards, t-shirts, bags and book­marks.

The cli­max of the ac­tiv­ity was a mono­logue from Mac­beth trans­lated into Mal­tese by Al­fred Palma, and acted out by Antonella Ax­isa un­der the di­rec­tion of Im­manuel Mif­sud.
