The Youth Committee forming part of the Società Filarmonica Maria Mater Gratiae of Żabbar has been awarded the national title for Malta’s Largest Feast Umbrella by The Malta Records.

This title was won after the Youth Committee applied for this record with an umbrella which was manufactured by the same committee in 2001 for the feast of Our Lady of Graces. This year, as part of the 15th anniversary of the production of this umbrella, the Youth Committee has asked the judges of The Malta Records to certify this structure as Malta’s largest umbrella.

The regulations for this record where already set previously and included that this structure must be left freestanding for at least 30 minutes before the measurements are taken and it must also withstand wind forces up to scale 5, otherwise the submission will be disqualified.

The measurements taken for this record are in order to calculate the total volume under the mentioned structure: the volume of a truncated cone together with that of a cylinder.

The structure belonging to this band club has a total volume of 2,126.674m3 and is certified by The Malta Records as being Malta’s Largest Feast Umbrella.

The Youth Committee is also planning that in the future it will be able to compete, with this same structure, for the record title of the world largest umbrella which is currently registered in China with The Guinness World Records.
