Valletta too strong for Luqa
Valletta had an easy outing against Luqa who offered a very feeble challenge.
The Valletta forwards created many scoring chances and had they scored in every occasion, the final result would have been more different.
Luqa keeper Wayne Perren saved his side from a heavier defeat with good saves and timely sorties.
The game was only five minutes old when Valletta opened the score as Kieran Mallia released Kurt Buhagiar on the edge of the area and he scored with a hard low drive past Luqa keeper Wayne Perren.
Buhagiar then passed the ball to Zammit in the area and Perren denied him with a diving save to a corner.
In the 23rd minute Zammit committed the miss-of-the-match as he skied the ball with only Perren to beat after a cross by Tabone. In Luqa’s only action a minute later Olin Abdilla served Matthew Schembri with a through ball in the area and Valletta keeper Lyvin Abdilla foiled him with a timely sortie.
Valletta doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Tabone dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and netted with a lobbed ball as he entered the area.
Three minutes before the break the score became 3-0 as Luqa defender Jean Polidano handled the ball in the area and Mallia made no mistake from the spot.
All actions after the resumption were created by Valletta. Goalie Perren was the protagonist on several occasions, especially saing shots by Zammit and Buhagiar.
Two more goals were then scored by Valletta in the 60th and 70th minutes. Fiteni served Tabone with a cross from the right and he first-timed the ball in the net from the edge of the area and substitute Sheldon Mackay released substitute Matthew Pulis in the area who scored with a hard low drive.
