Sparta goal­keeper apol­o­gises for crit­i­cism of fe­male ref­eree

Sparta Prague goal­keeper Tomas Koubek has apol­o­gised for his emo­tional out­burst against women af­ter a lineswoman failed to call off­side in a league game. Brno mid­fielder Alois Hy­cka was sev­eral me­tres off­side at the de­ci­sive mo­ment be­fore he used his po­si­tion to equalise in stop­page time and sal­vage a 3-3 draw for Brno against Sparta Prague. Af­ter Sun­day’s game, Koubek said: “My opin­ion is that women be­long at the stove and should not of­fi­ci­ate men’s foot­ball.” Yes­ter­day, the Czech Repub­lic goal­keeper posted on Face­book: “Im­me­di­ately af­ter the game, I said a sen­tence for which I’m sorry and for which I apol­o­gise to all women.” The soccer fed­er­a­tion’s dis­ci­plinary com­mit­tee is sched­uled to deal with Koubek’s re­marks on Thurs­day.
