Sterling to miss Malta match through injury Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend named as his replacement
Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has replaced the injured Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling in the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia this month.
Townsend, 25, has played 11 times for his country and scored three goals, but was not selected for Euro 2016.
He has played in all seven of Palace’s league games since joining from Newcastle for £13m in the summer.
England face Malta on Saturday and Slovenia three days later.
No details about Sterling’s injury were given yesterday.
