GWU orders industrial action after ‘rat infestation’ at BOV Sliema branch
The General Workers’ Union yesterday ordered workers at the Bank of Valletta branch at the Preluna Hotel in Sliema to leave their place of work after what the union said was a “rat infestation”.
The industrial action was ordered according to the occupations health and safety regulations aimed to protect workers’ health, the union said in a statement.
The union said the bank had recognised the problem and was taking the necessary steps.
In a separate statement, the bank said that Preluna Towers Branch, Tower Road, Sliema will be closed for business from today until further notice due to urgent works.
It did not mention the rat infestation reported by the GWU.
The bank said its customers can continue to avail themselves of full banking services being offered from Bank of Valletta branches at Balluta, St Julian’s, Gżira and Msida.
The bank said it will be keeping its Preluna Towers Branch customers informed of developments and apologises for any inconvenience caused. Customers can contact the bank’s Customer Service Centre on +356 2131-2020 for further information.
