GWU or­ders in­dus­trial ac­tion af­ter ‘rat in­fes­ta­tion’ at BOV Sliema branch

The Gen­eral Work­ers’ Union yes­ter­day or­dered work­ers at the Bank of Val­letta branch at the Pre­luna Ho­tel in Sliema to leave their place of work af­ter what the union said was a “rat in­fes­ta­tion”.

The in­dus­trial ac­tion was or­dered ac­cord­ing to the oc­cu­pa­tions health and safety reg­u­la­tions aimed to pro­tect work­ers’ health, the union said in a state­ment.

The union said the bank had recog­nised the prob­lem and was tak­ing the nec­es­sary steps.

In a sep­a­rate state­ment, the bank said that Pre­luna Tow­ers Branch, Tower Road, Sliema will be closed for busi­ness from to­day un­til fur­ther no­tice due to ur­gent works.

It did not men­tion the rat in­fes­ta­tion re­ported by the GWU.

The bank said its cus­tomers can con­tinue to avail them­selves of full bank­ing ser­vices be­ing of­fered from Bank of Val­letta branches at Bal­luta, St Ju­lian’s, Gżira and Msida.

The bank said it will be keep­ing its Pre­luna Tow­ers Branch cus­tomers in­formed of de­vel­op­ments and apol­o­gises for any in­con­ve­nience caused. Cus­tomers can con­tact the bank’s Cus­tomer Ser­vice Cen­tre on +356 2131-2020 for fur­ther in­for­ma­tion.
